Anchorage Murder Defense Attorneys
Let a Legal Team of Former Prosecutors Protect Your Rights & Freedom
Murder is the most serious violent crime a person can ever be accused of in Alaska and in every state in the country. Before ever stepping foot in a courtroom or being formally charged with the crime, you may already be labeled as guilty in the eyes of the public and the media. In order to defend yourself against damaging allegations, you need to hire a skilled criminal defense attorney who has experience handling complex violent crimes.
At Denali Law Group, we have 75 years of combined experience helping clients facing serious criminal allegations, such as murder and manslaughter. As former prosecutors, our Anchorage murder defense lawyers understand how the prosecution approaches these cases and can help our clients develop an effective and personalized counter argument to help you avoid conviction or get your charges reduced.
Murder Charges in Alaska
There are two types of murder charges in Alaska: first-degree and second-degree murder.
First-degree murder is described as a deliberate and premediated killing. Furthermore, it is first-degree murder to commit or attempt to commit a kidnapping or sex crime against a child under 16 years of age and the child dies as a result of the conduct or committing or attempting to commit first-degree criminal mischief and someone dies during the alleged offense.
On the other hand, second-degree murder does not involve premeditation. If a person has an intention to cause serious injury against another person – or he/she knew that his/her conduct would result in another person’s physical injury or death – and someone else dies as a result of that conduct, then it the offense is considered second-degree murder.
Both types of murder are unclassified felonies, punishable by imprisonment between 20 and 99 years, along with a maximum fine of $500,000.
